Background information

The Autism Association Zagreb (UAZ) is a humanitarian and non-profit organization established in 1997 by the parents of persons with autistic spectrum disorders. The purpose of UAZ is to promote the social inclusion of persons with autism to Croatian society, to protect and improve the rights and living conditions of persons with autistic spectrum disorders, and to facilitate their integration into local community as well as to improve the quality of their family life. UAZ is the only Autism NGO in Croatia which provides non-institutional services of supported housing for adults with autism aiming towards the development of a support network in the local community. UAZ collaborates with the relevant local and state level bodies, produces promotion materials and works with the media to raise public awareness of the issues related to autism, produces expert publications and cooperates and exchanges information with affined NGOs and the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences in order to combat social exclusion of persons with autism.
